Rhinos, aka chubby unicorns, may be completely gone in by the time my teenagers have their own teenagers. Sophie spotted this rhino first, thinking it was a hippo before it turned around. This was one of 15 or so introduced into Botswana, so seeing him/her was extra rare. Botswana has implemented a shoot on site policy to deter poachers. It's become that bad.
Our guide Joffers (cool name, right?) took us on foot to observe a male rhino about 200 yards away. Their eye site is surprisingly poor, but they make up for it with great smell, hearing and that unicorn horn.
And yes, rhinos can outrun Hussein Bolt.
