Tony is one of the most prolific creatives on the NY music scene right now. Besides being a world class trumpet player, he is a pianist, singer, songwriter, producer, and composer. His music is influenced by everyone from Stevie Wonder to Miles Davis. This image is part of a series of promo images we created at my studio.
For this three light setup, I added a blue gel to the kicker as a subtle nod to his "coolness" as a jazz musician. I always photograph my musician clients without their instruments at some point during our sessions, and I feel that the head-on headshot is one of the strongest visual representations of a person a photographer can create.
For this photo, I used my Westcott Flex Kit (key, fill and kicker), with a black v flat on both sides of the subject.
