This barn owl perched on a stump about 8 feet from the road at Farmington Bay. Meanwhile about 6 vehicles parked bumper to bumper on the side of the road with photographers trying to get the closest shot. Some guys even crawled under a pickup to get real-real-real close!
*Sigh!* I couldn’t do that. Instead I went about 10 feet beyond the last car, set up my tripod and composed this scene from a distance. The perch, foreground, background and contrasting colors were important parts of the picture; they framed, balanced and enhanced the owl. But when that owl looked down with that thoughtful pose I knew I got the missing piece: Attitude. Now I had a picture. This picture.
