Where autumn takes us

I hike. And today was a glorious day for it. I walked through a river of colors and trees in light. And in a world I find more troubling each day I was granted a kind of mercy ...forgetting if only for a little while about things I can't control, awful things. Ever upward this trail took me, pushing me harder than I expected as the sweat covered my brow. Earlier I had slipped on wet rocks and landed next to a quiet stream, my pride wounded but nothing more. And finally I reached my destination; a waterfall covered in yellows and greens with reds thrown in for good measure. And I took my images, the images I earned and felt satisfied. But I had no time to waste, and promises to keep so a brisk pace was set to return to my car. But this, this stopped me cold because I am transfixed by these moments...where autumn takes us.

It is good to have the opportunity to be transfixed, now and then.
