Great Blue Heron Having a Little Snack

This Great Blue Heron was up to his thighs in a murky overflow pond near a slow moving stream that runs out to the nearby Pacific Ocean, This pond is right next to a busy trail that leads many locals and tourists out to the dunes and ocean. But most that traversed this path this early evening never noticed him, he was in slow motion hunter mode, until the quick moment he would strike. This shot was taken right after one of these strikes. I did not notice the little crustacean until I reviewed the image on my computer's monitor.
I had set my tripod up 20-30 feet away from the pond which did bring attention to what I was capturing. One shy 7-10 year-old girl came with her mom's cell phone, whom I was able to encourage to get closer for her shot. To see her face after she got her images was as exciting as getting this image to share.
