The Vitra House, in Weil am Rhein, is a modern building in the deconstructivist style that was built by the architects Herzog & de Meuron in Basel and was completed and opened in March 2010. The house serves the manufacturer and dealer of home and office furniture Vitra as an exhibition and presentation space in the sense of a flagship store as well as a shop, studio and café.
The building is approximately 57 meters long, 54 meters wide and 21 meters high, making it higher than the other buildings on the Vitra Campus. The building structure made up of twelve individual structures – the classic “original house” as a basic model, so to speak – looks like houses stacked randomly on top of each other and thus forms the entire building on five levels. The individual structures protrude up to 15 meters apart. Almost all of these buildings are completely glazed at the front. The floor plates of the individual bodies cut into the roof area of the level below. The open center on the ground floor is a wood-planked space from which you can reach the foyer with a shop and café.
