Starry Nights and Fireflies

Starry Nights and Fireflies

This past weekend I was camping with some friends along the New River near Crumpler, North Carolina. Clouds and moonlight ruined any chance of getting a decent Milky Way shot, although you can see part of it in this image. However, thousands of fireflies were dancing all night long. Every yellow dot in this image is a firefly. If you zoom in you can really see just how many there were.

This was shot over several hours through out the night. I used a blue hour photo shot at f/8 iso 50 for my foreground. One shot for the night sky/ Milky Way at f/2.8 iso1600 30 seconds. Then I used 68 individual photos to blend in the fireflies. Most of them were the same settings as the night sky shot.

Any helpful tips or tricks with doing this type of thing would be appreciated. Thanks for looking!
