The Opening

I was multiple times at White Sands National Park (former National Monument), however for a light situation like I experienced during my first trip I am still waiting for. I took this frame more than 20 years ago on a November evening in the gypsum dune field. It had rained and the sky was heavily covered by clouds. However, just around sunset an opening in the clouds let the brilliant sunlight shine through a gap in the mountains. The photo was taken with an analog Canon camera using Velvia 50 slide film.

Wow spectacular. Did you do anything special in the development phase to accentuate the foreground? Or have you done something to it post processing after you digitized it. It looks amazing.

No, that wasn't necessary. The bright white gypsum sand itself generates this contrast. The scanned file was noise-reduced and I reduced the color saturation a bit. Velvia 50 was a very saturated film and usually it was a bit underexposed to enhance the colors. Thank you!
