One of our day trips from Waikiki on Oahu, was to Waimea Valley on the North Shore. It's about 40 miles away and takes about an hour to get there by car. Waimea Falls was our main point of interest to see, photograph and escape the heat and humidity by soaking in it's refreshing waters. There are lockers for a fee to store your gear if you decide to enjoy the Falls, life vest are required by the onsite lifeguards.
To get to the Falls you can walk the 0.75 mile paved trail through an amazing Botanical Garden, with Hawaiian cultural and historical displays scattered about. There are shuttles that run from the entrance up to the Falls as well, although walking is my recommendation if you are able.
This little guy was very interested in what I was doing - changing my lens - then posed for his picture!
