[Pics] Flickr Spotlight #13 – Smoking Portraits

Smoking is totally bad for your health, and the health of the people around you. BUT, I think we can all agree smoking is awesome for your pictures. With the right light, location or theme, you can get great and memorable shots when the model is smoking.

Personally I never smoked, and never going to try, but I really enjoy looking at portraits of smoking girls and guys. Check out this collection of 15 amazing portraits of smoking people.

Of course we'll be happy to hear which were your favorites, and feel free to show us your own smoking portraits on our Facebook Group.

Sylvia Vale has some incredible work on Flickr. Def. the cream of the crop IMO.

i disagree. the images seem to plastic for my taste. very good, but i would not say cream of the crop...

Interesting work with DOF... I just don't like the smoke formation. I would have preferred to see more of his face or more of a defined pattern in the smoke. I'm probably asking too much...

Just yesterday someone left a comment on my Flickr page because the subject was smoking in my portrait "Jazz 2012"  He Said: wow, are smoking people really a cool subject for photography in 21st century? shouldn't everyone know better already?

As long as people are smoking photographers will be taking their photos.http://www.flickr.com/photos/theonewhodidntrun/6960064182/in/photostream

I Also have one -

:)

Pictures of smoke are cool. Pictures of people are cool. Picture of people smoking... makes me sick.
Especially when I remind myself how hard it was to quit.

I have one here. Smoking gangs

Smoking kills. Please don't glamorize it. Watching my father and uncle die of lung cancer was not a pretty picture. I'll ask you to remove the photos.

Sorry to disagree with you, but you are being ignorant. War kills, does that mean we should no longer publish those photos either? Drugs can kill, don't show that either? How about food, more people die of heart disease than anything else? Let's all just bury our heads in the sand and act like no humans anywhere ever do anything dangerous. If it happens, we should photograph it. It doesn't mean it's glamorous, it just means it happened. Sorry to hear about your family, but that is a good reason to state (like the author did) that it is bad for you. Don't just ignore the fact that people still do smoke. If you ignore it and act like it doesn't happen you are doing more harm than these photos ever will.

BTW, my mother had to have a double lung transplant due to smoking and cancer. She survives day to day.

Well, don't ignore it but don't glamorize it. I didn't see pictures showing how war is cool (except US.army or Nazi agenda).
I don't judge but I think artist don't realize how powerful they are and they should be more responsible.

life kills... so what do we do now??

smokin girls are wueeeehh
