Are These Strange Lenses Worth Buying?

Canon has been releasing some mightily impressive lenses the last few years, but two of the more unique options we have seen are the RF 600mm f/11 IS STM and RF 800mm f/11 IS STM. They are quite affordable, however, offering photographers the chance to use extreme focal lengths without breaking the bank. How do they hold up in practice? This great video review takes a look at both of the lenses and the images they produce.

Coming to you from Jan Wegener, this excellent video review takes a look at the Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM and RF 800mm f/11 IS STM lenses. Certainly, with a fixed aperture of f/11, these lenses are rather unusual, but they show quite decent image quality and performance. In particular, I am impressed by their background blur. No doubt, an f/5.6 or f/8 lens will give you better blur, but you might be surprised by how well even an f/11 lens can isolate your subject. Beyond that, with the impressive ISO performance of Canon's new bodies, like the EOS R5, you can afford a narrower aperture in a wider variety of situations. Check out the video above for Wegener's full thoughts on the lenses.

Those AF limitations are "unusual". Limiting the focus points to a small area of the finder might be problematic. I wonder if this was done purposely or is this a natural design outcome.

Worth buying??....Not for serious photographers..
