Does the M1 Max MacBook Pro Live Up to the Hype?

Apple's M1 chip has evolved into the M1 Pro and M1 Max, promising even better performance than the already impressive original and similar super-long battery life. As of now, the M1 Max sits at the top of the lineup, but can it handle all the heavy demands of professional video editing? This excellent battery of tests pits it against two other options to find out.

Coming to you from Premiere Gal, this awesome video review takes a look at the performance of the new M1 Max MacBook Pro in comparison to an Intel i7 MacBook Pro and a Dell 7550 laptop. It certainly seems like the new M1 Max chip lives up to the hype. The thing that really impresses me is that it used to be that one had to keep a more powerful desktop at home for more resource-heavy work, but these new options are so powerful that you may decide a MacBook Pro is all you need. After all, you can always hook it up to a larger monitor if you want more screen real estate for working at home. Add in the lengthy battery life, and it looks like a complete solution for demanding creatives. Check out the video above to see the computers in action.

Interesting comparison. But unfortunately, Adobe products are still painfully not Apple Silicon optimised even though they are M1 native.

I second this. Adobe released Premiere Pro 22.1.1. and it has a bunch of bugs that they need to address immediately. I'm hoping they can make these changes soon.

I returned mine 64gb, M1 Max, 2 TB(not enough)…using many apps most worked faster, the M1 was faster however PS crashed consistently in my work flow. Apples 14 day return policy saved my bacon after two weeks of frustratingly restarts and loss of time I hit burnout stage daily.

I’m sure the next release of the M2 will make the M1 look dull in comparison but back on my 2019 MacBook Pro w 64gb, 4 tb, the fans constantly sing but PS rarely crashes.

Apple may not be at fault it may Adobe either way it was not usable.

For anybody in the same situation going from old to new migration is pretty flawless, except all your registrations are crippled….going back from NEW M1 to OLD 2019 was a three day nightmare plan a good three days of eight hours a day trying to restore a heavily loaded MacBook.

Things Good the ports, the card slot, the mag power.
Things Bad the weight and thickness, not able to color correct the screen, needs two more ports, Ethernet and one USB.

Reality is that your using a MacBook costing 2600.00 to travel locations with but when spending 6000.00 it’s a desktop replacement and the minimalist design is not working for many people.
Biggest downer you can’t upgrade its one and done. More like Appleway or the highway.

By the way ever changing accessory connections to eliminate third party vendors is also hurting the MacBook user by forcing us to re purchase while Apple has the ability to offer solution like a matching hub (with the right power output to accessories) that could solve all he problems.

I have a drawer full of cords that could span the state of Texas.

Short live the M1

Oh and the trade in BS if your trade-in has numerous scratches that’s a $1000.00 deduction from their original estimate, beware of the bait and switch offer.

Just curious, what do you mean you're not able to color correct the screen?
