How Does the Sony a1 Compare to the Canon EOS R5?

The Sony a1 and Canon EOS R5 are the two best cameras available from the respective companies at the moment, and both offer the sort of remarkable performance and advanced features that professionals and advanced hobbyists demand. So, which is right for you? This excellent video review makes a thorough comparison between the two cameras.

Coming to you from Jan Wegener, this great video comparison takes a look at the Sony a1 and the Canon EOS R5 mirrorless cameras. Both cameras are highly impressive and should be able to tackle almost any scenario you can throw at them with ease, but it is also worth considering that the a1 is about twice the price of the EOS R5. While it edges out the EOS R5 in some respects, I think it is also good to think about if you are getting into diminishing returns at a certain point. Both cameras are likely more than enough for the needs of 99% of photographers, and if you are not already heavily invested in one system or the other, you can save a bundle and get a nice lens or two by going with the Canon (plus you can seamlessly adapt the vast library of EF lenses). Still, for those already in the Sony system or who want certain features, it is hard to go wrong with the a1. Check out the video above for Wegener's full thoughts on both cameras.

A1-Flagship, R5, top line pro-sumer. All this proves is that the R5 is quite close in performance to Sony's flagship at half the cost. Both terrific cameras for sure.

R5 mechanical shutter lag stinks for panning fast moving objects.
