A Look at the Filmmaking Capabilities of the Sony a1

The Sony a1 is by far one of the most extreme cameras we have ever seen, with some particularly head-turning video features that make it (at least on paper) ready to tackle just about anything you can throw at it. How does its video performance hold up in the real world? This fantastic video review takes a good look.

Coming to you from ZY Productions, this great video review takes a look at the Sony a1 mirrorless camera for filmmaking work. Of course, the headline video feature of the a1 is its 8K 30p video that offers 8.6K oversampling using the full sensor width at 10-bit 4:2:0. Beyond that, though, the a1 features low bit-rate HD proxy files for an easier workflow, 4K video at up to 120 fps at 10 percent crop and up to 60 fps with full pixel readout, 16-bit 4.3K raw output to an external recorder, heat dissipation system designed for recording over 30 minutes continuously in 8K, S-Cinetone color profile for natural skin tones, and S-Log2 Gamma Curve, which offers up to 1,300% more dynamic range than REC709.
