A Review of Sony's Premium Ultra-Wide Zoom, the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM

An ultra-wide f/2.8 zoom lens is quite versatile, able to tackle anything from landscapes and astrophotography to events work. For Sony shooters, there is the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM, and this great video review takes a look at the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice. 

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this excellent video review takes a look at the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens. As the company's premium ultra-wide zoom lens and a part of their G Master series, the 16-35mm comes with a variety of professional features, including:

  • Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and three aspherical elements for decreased spherical aberrations
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements for reduced chromatic aberrations and increased clarity
  • Nano AR Coating for reduced ghosting and flares and increased contrast
  • Two Direct Drive SSM autofocus groups for fast and quiet focus suitable for both photo and video work 
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed construction
  • Fluorine-coated front element for dust and fingerprint protection
  • Rounded 11-blade diaphragm for smoother bokeh
