Viltrox 56mm f/1.2 Pro X Mount Review

Viltrox continues to release excellent and affordable lenses at a rapid pace, and the new Viltrox 56mm f/1.2 Pro lens is no exception. It offers a lot without breaking the bank, making it one of the most desirable prime lenses for Fujifilm shooters.

A fast, relatively compact, and sharp portrait lens might just be the Holy Grail for Fujifilm shooters. However, the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 R WR lens will run you well over $1,000. For under $600, Viltrox now offers its own 56mm f/1.2 Pro lens, and there is a lot to love about this latest portrait lens.

In the accompanying YouTube video, I discuss the great aspects of this lens as well as where it falls a bit short. The image quality is excellent, and the Viltrox 56mm renders sharp, detailed images with very subtle and natural falloff. The fast aperture not only makes it a great portrait lens but also a great lens for anyone working in low-light conditions.

For instance, as a concert photographer shooting in small jazz clubs and bars around New York, the 56mm allows me to capture images at relatively low ISOs and offers good dynamic range. The build quality of the 56mm is also excellent, with solid construction, a metal body, and a lens mount, along with a soft but firm aperture ring.

As I discuss in the video, the main area where I felt the Viltrox 56mm fell short was autofocus performance, which struggled to lock focus when I used the lens in a dark bar. The review includes lots of photos as well as images of the lens for you to check out. Enjoy!
