An 85mm lens with a wide maximum aperture is the tool of choice for countless portrait and wedding photographers, offering a classic, flattering focal length in tandem with shallow depth of field and plenty of low-light capabilities. Such lenses run a wide gamut of prices, however. This excellent video comparison takes a look at three options with a $1,000 price difference between them, the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II, Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM, and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art.
Coming to you from Mark Duffy, this great video review compares the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II, Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM, and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lenses. With the Samyang sitting at $799, the Sony at $1,798 and the Sigma in between, there is a lot of variability in the price range of these options (and even more if you start adding in more such lenses), which is great for photographers, as you can generally find a good option for your specific budget and needs. I have been particularly impressed by Samyang the last few years, who have come on strong with some impressive performers at highly competitive prices, though the Sigma and Sony 85mm options are certainly not slouches. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Duffy.
When I don't need autofocus, I love the contrast, color and sharpness of the Zeiss Milvus 85mm f1.4. When I do need autofocus, which isn't often except at weddings, I like my Nikon 85 f1.4 G.
Well Mark... Canon it is.. RF 85/1.2
Samyang is killing it.
NO DOUBT. The 135 is INCREDIBLE
