Both the EOS R7 and X-T5 are highly capable cameras, but one thing I think potential buyers should also seriously consider are their respective lens ecosystems. The RF-S mount has just a few lenses at the moment, while Fujifilm's XF lenses are plentiful. Of course, if you are just buying the EOS R7 as a full frame backup or plan to adapt EF and/or EF-S mount lenses, this is not as much of an issue, but if you are building a kit from scratch or making either of these your primary camera, you should make your lens needs a big part of the purchase decision. Pentax it's not a camera!
Having come from Pentax. I will disagree. Why? The mount is full frame ready. And they push APS-C users toward the heavy full frame compatible lenses. Your APS-C is an afterthought, a mere upgrade path. Fuji is sticking with APS-C. Lighter lenses. Same with micro 4/3. I don’t want an upgrade path. I want a lightweight camera system. Which is why I now use m4/3. And also have a Fuji. Not everyone wants an upgrade path to full frame.
Best APS-C camera is a Sony a7RM5 in cropped mode.
I was in the middle of typing that they are all great but I heard a noise outside. I looked out the window and I see violence and horror! I race outside to see that my X-H2S has lined up an R7, an A6500, and an Zfc, about to curbstomp them all in turn! I pull the Fuji away with its wrist strap, barely! I explain that many people have lesser needs and will be happy to give these little cameras a home! He seemed to understand, thank the photo gods.
Fujifilm hands down. Canon doesn't even come close to the crown in the aps-c market.
Good review except for a major failure on the control wheel and joystick.
I have the R7 and the back wheel and joystick fall perfectly under my thumb. Absolutely no shift of grip to use the wheel and joystick. The traditional lower wheel on my other Canon cameras is a pain to use compared to the R7. Looks odd perhaps but once you really use it it's perfect and I love it.
Don't knock it until you actually use it. I hopefully will never have to go back to the old lower positioned wheel.
