Are you curious as to what your shutter count is? Then head on over to MyShutterCount.com, where they presumably are able to tell the shutter count of "most cameras" simply by uploading a picture. And if you want to know how many of those clicks you can expect before your camera goes kaputs then check out the Camera Life Expectancy Database.
Now, I'm on the road posting from my iPad 2 and can't check this service out for myself, so once again I have to call upon you, our special team of Fstoppers' tester monkeys, to give this site a go and see if it lives up to it's claims. More importantly I want to know who has the heaviest trigger finger. So post your shutter count in our comments and lets see, who amongst us, has the strongest camera kung fu.

Opanda did that years ago
it didn't work for me, so not sure it's for real or not.
Damn. I only have 12 shots left :)
Mine (EOS 7D) says:"Sorry, currently we only support Nikon's NEF, JPG and Pextax's DNG, PEF, JPG format. Other systems are not yet supported, such as Canon, Sony, Olympus due to their manufacturing designs are different."A pity, i'm curious... But they do have a 7d page with statistics. Sounds weird!
Is this a joke?
Seems bogus...
Finally got this to work!
Got some error trying to upload a NEF.

There are programs you can download to find this out, too. Of course, it's not as simple as visiting a site and uploading an image. All of those programs, though, usually only work with JPGs. I'm surprised to see that they support any raw files at all. Interesting...
Have only had this camera a few months but... probably one of the lowest counts!
Shutter count: 7943
in the photoshop file info window - last tab Advanced - second line, ends with /aux/ and here you have the aux:imagenumber
(for nikon)
I've got a little bit of software I found on the net called "exif tool" that tells me my shutter count, apparently only works for nikon though, If anyone wants a copy of it, mail me
Andrew
without even using this website, I can tell you that my shutter is at 88,453. Nikon D700 owned it for 1.5 years.
The only way it can know is if the camera is specifically putting that value within the metadata of the image. Andrew's tool sounds about right.

I upgrade cameras every time one is released so usually my count is pretty low. The oldest camera I have is my ancient D700 (hurry up Nikon!) and it has 104,602. Hopefully this camera will find a new owner soon!
And just for kicks one of my D300s has 41,695 and the other has 41,143 (wow those are close). My D7000 has a lot of catching up to do with just 1,612!
The real question should be Who has the lowest number? Just checked my Canon T2i which I bought just for 60fps video and it has 40 which is higher than I would have thought. Who can beat that?
Ok, so shutter count could not get the info from my .jpg, but I use my iphone4 for timelapse, and noticed that after IMG_9999.JPG, it just went back to IMG_0001.JPG....this has happened twice, and I'm now on IMG_7417, so it won't be long before it "ticks over" again.
Far cry from the 100 000's like some, but it's still early days, and I doubt the "shutter" will wear out, so I can just keep going....guess I will never know the real count
During the unsuccessful upload to the shutter count site, I did notice that I was on .img 10024. Aside from video I can't think of any reason why my shutter count would be much higher. Maybe mirror lockup for some macro shots? I was a lil upset that I hadn't made my 10,000th shot a lil more interesting than the flash/rain drop experiment I did a few days ago.
Odd that "most cameras" does not include Canon cameras...? Or Adobe DNG...?
I have the highest shutter count :D Nikon D700 Purchased in 2009

My Canon 1d Mark II had done 264,000 when i sold it, my Canon 1d Mark IIN i have as a back up body shutter is only at 116,000 and its in at Canon now waiting to be repaired, shafted i tell you HAHAHA
Nikon D700, 434424 shutter releases, but it has been repaired for 2000$,
wow repaired? That's almost the price of a new one....what happened?
Why wouldn't you have just bought a new body for $1,199? The money you spent on the camera and a repair you alomost to a D3s.
I've only got just over 21,000 on my D7000. She's still young.
Wow! I'm curious as to what my Canon 20D will show up as. I'm sure its at least above 70,000+ shutter count. How does it work if at every 10,000 photos, canon resets the # back to 1?
So after a little test i found that it does have to be the very last image that you took. Since it says "Just simply upload a photo your camera took." Does not say make sure to upload the last photo your camera took. Seeing as how I got different results. However, Ive had my D7000 since Febuary of 2011 and as of the last image I have shot 18,300 photos.

So the http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/ does not show the D7000. Anyone now what they claim for actuations on one?
Nikon D300 - 187,000 shutter releases
my d300 died at 178.000 .. well not dead, but mirror did.. 304 euros repair, should get it back this week and the tech guy said is good for another 100-150k easy.
Nikon D50 Shutter count: 46,375 and still going since 2006!
Looks like I'm bucking the trend too:
Average number of actuations after which shutter is still alive: 26,452
Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 41,869
50,820 since May '09
Nikon D300 shutter count: 57,790
Average number of actuations after which shutter is still alive: 74,087.2
Average number of actuations after which shutter died: 129,648.1

My Canon 5D mk2 is still young 31101. I checked it via the 40Dshutter count http://astrojargon.net/40DShutterCount.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 couldn't be easier. works with every digicIV camera
Nikon D300 - 121660 looks like I only have about 3 weddings left in it.
Oddly enough, the File Info window in photoshop works perfectly for my nikon NEF and jpg files, but doesn't on my pentax's jpg, and DNG files (which is Adobe's own raw file format). Weird.
My 6D has 279.540 !!!!!
my 7D has 145.873!!!!
time to buy new ones!
