Pushing the Use of Zoom Lenses on the DJI Inspire

As I continue to dwell about upgrading my drone and having more creative freedom and quality with the Zenmuse X5 and choice of lenses, I am stuck thinking about all the content that I could be out creating with these amazing tools.

The 45mm lens that can be balanced on an X5 camera is a feature that most aerial platforms don’t yet offer. Yes, we can shoot in 4k or 2.7k and crop the video, or we can go buy the new Z3 camera that zooms in, but either way this is a different story. The depth of field and look you can achieve with this set up is just awesome. You can be so far away from your subject while still appearing to be close to it.

There are ways to balance these kinds of micro 4/3 lenses on the DJI Inspire, otherwise you can achieve this look by using a drone that can hold an actual DSLR or Mirrorless Camera with a lens and fly that. If that is the case, it may not be as easy to fly or as portable as the Inspire or Phantom drones. The most popular lenses I've heard of are the 12mm, 15mm and 17mm lenses. The more uncommon lenses which I have recently heard about are the 25mm and 45mm lenses which seem to require extra balancing. Check out some of the footage and see for yourself how much this can change the drone game.

I am a huge nerd when it comes to drones and have been flying for over 4 years. I enjoy doing aerial photography as my personal work but shoot tons of video for work as well. I am a part of Simply Visual Productions and Simply Sounds, working my way into an industry I couldn't be happier to be a part of.

great article!

Thanks!

That first video was absolutely insane! And dammit now I want to get the X5 / 45mm combo.

Hahaha I want to get one too but I need the Inspire first

Now is a good time then! The price just dropped on the inspire and x5.
