Growing up in Syracuse, New York, Tom Drone was only exposed to the beauty of this city at ground level. As time went on and technology advanced, drones became a popular tool for filming things from a new perspective. After years of work in the drone business, Tom returned to his hometown to film it from the sky.
Before I say anything else in this article, I have to mention that everything in this video was done within FAA Regulations and Tom did have a waiver to fly there.
Having been born and raised in Syracuse, NY, I've always wanted to get back up there and show the beauty of the city with aerial footage. It will always be an important place in my heart and I was glad we could capture some it's historic buildings and popular hotspots. Syracuse, NY is the 5th biggest city in New York State and usually the most snowiest big city in the US. With a population of over 800,000, which includes the surrounding towns and villages, Syracuse has become an economic and educational hub of Central New York. It is also the home of Syracuse University and University Hospital. - Tom Harmon
This video was filmed on the DJI Inspire 2 and X5S all dual op. Lenses used were the 15mm DJI, 25mm Panasonic, and 45mm Olympus. Tom and I chose to fly longer lenses throughout the video because it gives a different look than what we are used to seeing on drones. We woke up at sunrise and would film till sunset, shooting in the best light we could possibly get. Despite the cloud coverage, we were able to get almost all of the shots we had planned in the time that we were up there to shoot. Overall, I think this video came out really well and does a good job showing Syracuse.
some times it amazes me how this sink hole of a city can still look good. There is nothing left of Syracuse. Everywhere else is moving beyond it and it is slowly falling behind in everything. I wish it would catch up with the times and become what it once was but not sure that will happen.
