Kaylee Greer Answers Your Dog Photography Questions on the Grid

If you haven’t yet come across the whimsical, awe-inspiring dog portraits created by Kaylee Greer of Dog Breath Photography, they will forever change the way you look at dog photos. Within the last few years Greer has risen to be one of the most recognizable dog photographers in the world, with her colorful style and ability to capture humorous and fun expressions. On a recent episode of The Grid hosted by Scott Kelby, Greer answers a variety of questions about her craft.

Greer discusses a variety of tips for developing your dog photography skills. Some of the topics that are touched on include photographing “difficult” dogs, such as those who are fearful of the camera, shelter dogs, and dogs that are deaf or blind. She also touches on practical aspects of managing a dog photography session, including dealing with nervous owners, and photographing without an assistant.

It’s very clear from hearing her speak that the ability to understand canine behavior is crucial to success in photographing dogs, and the focus of this video was on anything but technical aspects of dog photography, such as camera settings and lighting. Besides learning a few helpful nuggets of advice from this episode, it’s entertaining hearing her speak about her personal experiences that she acquired throughout her rapid rise to becoming one of the world’s top dog photographers.

I dunno. I couldn't sit through the preamble and got tired of skipping forward to find the actual program. I did like the content of her KelbyOne class but she's a bit...odd.

I wish that I could find the film of our Beagles, Ranger and Runner. They were chilling out laying over the A/C vent. I turned on the flash and the flash ready beep caught their interest and they cocked their heads at the same angle.

I should take more photos of our dogs. I took a photo of our 15 year old before I took her to the vet to put her down; cancer sucks.

I know that this video is 2 years old, but I still need to comment. I just signed up for Kelby so that I can learn from Kaylee. I watched her class and still wanted to learn more. I was excited when I saw this video. But it was a waste of an hour and a half. Mr. Kelby completely usurped the conversation leaving poor Kaylee to just wait for when he was done talking about Dasani water bottles. I learned nothing from her because most of the content was fodder. I hope if you ever have her back, you treat her talents and our time with more respect.
