Can AI Make Art?

AI is getting a ton of attention right now. Some of that is excitement, with photographers interested in the ways it can make their workflows more efficient and expand their creative range. Others are worried about the impact it will have on the industry and how it could potentially render some photographers irrelevant. Can AI actually create art, though? This interesting video essay discusses the topic.

Coming to you from EYExplore, this insightful video essay discusses whether AI can make art. I believe that art is a deeply human thing and that no matter how good AI is at imitating it, it will never be true art, or at the very least, it will be pointless from the perspective of human experience. That being said, it is important to distinguish between the philosophical question of if AI-generated content is art and the practical question of if it matters once it becomes indistinguishable to the common eye. Much as they might not want to, photographers need to stay at least aware of how AI is evolving within the industry to ensure they can respond to those changes and continue to stay relevant and needed in a rapidly evolving landscape. Check out the video above for the full rundown.

OK so I only made it a little past six minutes, but if a human is inputting the necessary prompts based on their conscious imagination, why can't we call it art. AI is tool for the artist to bring their vision to fruition.

Kind of like saying the National Book Award winners written on a word processor isn't as good as one written on a manual typewriter.
