impossible to regulate... Even if AI tools had file-watermarks: I could simply take a high quality screenshot of your images and repost them. But you should know I wouldn't need to even go that far, if you're in this business, when it comes to images and image editing. 2) If the tools had visible watermarks, than what good would they be, people would just move on to other useful AI tools. AI imaging technology is a great thing when used for good things. (of course some would say there are no good uses, but that is a different argument.) Your examples are when AI is used very badly (we can agree on that). But I don't expect everyone to turn-the clock back to go there with you. Just like we can not expect everyone to stop using the 'Internet' because it contains 'Cybercrime' and other bad things. So maybe this is about regulation of 'Freedom' then? Just like those that want 'Social-Media' platforms to be shutdown or to be heavily regulated. Hey maybe eventually the west will end up like the 'Great Fire Wall' that is in China. Instead of prosecuting a couple of bad-actors, lets take away the right to use AI from everyone, or make it much more difficult, right?

It's 2025, or will be in a couple of minutes. Maybe by the time you read this. Your imaging devices contain AI. Even that brand new camera does. Will it put a puffer coat on the Pope? No.

Studio 4x5 , I couldn't agree more. The genie was let out of the bottle nearly 30 years ago. We are now realizing all those granted wishes had strings attached. No amount of legislation or labeling will prevent or dissuade those with malicious intent nor will it stop nefarious activities from occurring. One simple tool to mitigate its effects is critical thinking. Unfortunately, it’s something that isn’t really taught in public schools today.

I actually have concerns about regulation and labeling. I want very much to get Photoshop, because of the feature called "Generative Fill". At least that's what I think it's called. It is where if you have a photo that you shot too tight, you can add canvas to your image, and then Photoshop's AI will automatically fill in the added canvas, to make the photo pretty much like it would have been if you had shot it wider.

I want to do this to a lot of my photos that aren't useful the way they are, due to me shooting too tight and cutting off legs, antlers, wing tips, etc. from my wildlife subjects. And then I want to offer those images, with the added canvas areas, for licensing on stock sites, like I do with my other photos.

BUT ...... I am concerned that the stock agencies will compensate me differently (lower royalties) or that some clients may not be interested in the images if they are labeled as AI generated photos. So if there were some kind of standard labelling system in place that required that all images that have used any AI be tagged as such, this could really limit how much I could earn from pics that I use the auto-fill thing on.

I don't make much money from selling on stock sites, but the little money that I do make that way is desperately needed. I could literally not survive without it. Strict regulations could strip me of the hopes I have of being able to make a little more money than I make now from my stock sales, and such hopes are really important to me and I want to keep those hopes alive. I am definitely "the little guy" in terms of trying to live on a shoestring, and the last thing this world needs are more regulations that hurt the little guy.
