How many of you have tried to use fire to light paint a subject? What about just shooting fitness? In Brandon Wells' latest project, he decided to the mix the two together for some amazing photos.
With the goal of using fire trails to demonstrate motion in a few different exercises, Brandon combined long exposure light painting to capture the trails with strobed photography, to stop the subject in the finished pose. Using his Nikon D810 and Sigma 24mm f/1.8 to capture the magic, he used a pair of Interfit S1’s with full top CTO gels and Intermit remote triggers to freeze the desired frame. With a project like this, you definitely want to make sure you got the shot before leaving the set. Paired with Apple Macbook Pro and Capture One Pro 9, shooting tethered was the way to go.
Brandon didn’t do this all alone, he had a great team there to help. For safety measures, they had a few fire extinguishers, wet towels, and a giant bucket of water near by. I think the final images came out great. What do you think of the project? Check out the final photos along with the lighting diagrams.
Wow.
It gives me an idea for a boxer picture :)
You went above and beyond. Great job everyone. Way to stand out!
This video inspired me to experiment and it was a blast!
