Metallic Mood Photoshoot BTS With Rob Werlinger

When Profoto contacted Portland-based fashion photographer Rob Werlinger about doing a blog post for them, he pulled out all the stops. "The concept revolved around metallics and you can see them used prominently in the wardrobe, makeup, and also reflected in the mood and emotion of the model,” writes Rob. “Since we were using the 'Profoto Pro-8a packs' that feature action-stopping short flash duration times, I wanted to bring in a strong element of motion as well.”

The first thing you'll notice as the shoot gets going is the number of lights Rob has set up for these images. Two beauty dishes for hair and highlights, two softboxes to keep the background white and a large parabolic for fill. Things move around a bit and some others may have snuck in or out...but that's the basic setup.

Dear Profoto - your E-mail asking me to do a blog post seems to have gone missing. Please re-send ;)

In the mean time - you can really hear the auto focusing on the right audio channel!

That way you know it's working :P.

I'm not sure but those look like magnum reflectors. Not a soft light reflector (beauty dish)

Jason, good eye. There were actually two lighting setups used (the latter ended up not being mentioned in the feature); the above as described, and the second with a gridded magnum.
