Seven Tips for Making Photography Your Career

What does it take to turn your photography business into a full-time job? Three successful photographers share the critical steps they took to make a career out of photography.

In this video, Sorelle Amore partners with Mango Street’s Rachel Gulotta and Daniel Inskeep to share their wisdom on turning photography into a career. All three have thriving photography businesses, and they combine to give excellent advice about earning money in this profession.

While the video includes advice in seven different areas, I believed the best tips to be the first and the last. The first suggestion they make is to find a niche and focus your business on that. I’ve found this to be excellent advice in my career, even if it does kick against the conventional method of photographing everything you can to make money. It has apparently worked for Amore as well, as she has made a career out of her advanced selfies niche. The last bit of advice they give is to never stop learning. I know it’s common advice, but I believe that it is the difference between making money versus making a career.

To see what other advice this group has to give, check out the video above. It is worth watching for anyone who desires to grow their passion into their career.
