We want to see your best "Epic Wedding" photos for our next Critique the Community.
Between now and February 18th, you may submit up to two of your best images that show off your most epic wedding portraits. We will be selecting a total of 20 images to give feedback to and two entrants will win a free Fstoppers original tutorial. We have Pye Jirsa of SLR Lounge guest judging this contest and as many of you know, his company Lin and Jirsa Weddings is one of the most successful wedding companies in the world.
The first winner will be decided by the highest average community rated image and the second will be chosen at random. Please note that we want to see high quality pictures and will probably overlook anything that looks like a snapshot.
Once you've uploaded your submissions, we encourage you to scroll through everyone else's and give them ratings and comments of your own. Please keep feedback encouraging and helpful.
Do the images have to be an actual wedding or just a wedding themed image?
I've taken a picture there, that's the Bonneville salt flats rest stop in Utah. Seems that pic was taken on an extremely low contrast day.
I'm looking at the photos and it occurs to me "epic wedding" photos may not mean what I think it means.
I guess epic means 2 indistinguishable, small and blurry people surrounded by something...
If its a wedding, wheres the magic of the romance? Things that signify wedding.
"EPIC" you keep using that word.. I don't think it means what you think it means.
Lol
"Extremely awesome"?
Just so there's no confusion (but there will be)... The definition of epic as combined from different sources on-line to be relevant to this contest. Epic: Extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope. A work of art (such as a novel or drama) that resembles or suggests an epic. In modern times epic has been used in a highly colloquial fashion, in a manner that is largely synonymous with outstanding, fabulous, or impressive. Some synonyms: gallant, glorious, grand, grandiose, heroic (also heroical), imposing, magnificent, majestic, massive, monumental, noble, proud, regal, royal, splendid, stately.
I looked this up too and your def is spot on. I always get a kick out of definitions like "Epic (adj) something describing an epic or having characteristics of an epic." An "epic" is "a long poem, typically one derived from ancient oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures or the history of a nation." I agree with you that in the use "epic wedding photograph" it needs to feel large scale, dramatic and grand. Your list of modern uses is a great guideline for those entering, as in "does my image feel gradiose, majestic or ____?"
Anyway, I'm sitting this out - trying to keep the off topic entries to a minimum. Still hoping for more technique-based topics and less 'epic', 'moody', 'quirky',....
from a personal perspective at looking at the submissions so far....90% would be rejected as not "epic" I figure that was a poor choice of words because there would be so few "epic" wedding photos in existence...an epic landscape or something of that nature is much more possible. epic wedding is just not a thing. So I figured that i would just submit my most liked and favorite and special photo...
"Between now and February 18th" lol this article was published on the 17th, surely there must be a problem with the deadline ?
It was meant to be published a few days ago but someone failed to make it public. Pye leaves Puerto Rico on the 19th.
It wont even allow me to vote.
Some good images posted so far of this tough genre. Are they epic? Ehhhhhh.....
Although, it says " "epic wedding" " not " "epic wedding photographs" ".
What's an epic wedding?
Finally, someone noticed.
And as for what it is, we have to start with wedding itself, I would say it's the ceremony of vows exchange and their public announcement, so everything that happens in church, city hall, or whatever place was chosen for the ceremony.
Preparation, reception, photo session (usually, but not always) are part of the day, but they are not wedding itself.
Now "epic" bit. I think it's completely irrelevant issue. Every/each wedding is epic for at least young couple, ergo every/each wedding is epic.
Yes! Everyone's wedding is epic for them... but we are not here to critique their wedding, or each couple, or their wedding, or the reception, or their photo session, or anything else except we are critiquing a photo they have submitted that is (supposedly) an epic wedding photo, period. Just the photo, as it relates to the guidelines given in the context rules. Can those rules be interpreted? Yes, of course. And we, as a photographic community, will critique the photos. It is not a reflection on anything else except that photo and how it relates to the guidelines of the contest. The critiques are not personal attacks on anyone's wedding.
Missed this. Wished the deadline would be extended or this contest would happen again. :)
i have to say it again, its a pity that the people cant get a grip on the votes. i see so many beautiful but also technically very good shots and they dont even get a full solid. kind of a shame. i wonder if anybody ever got a 4, let alone 5 stars.
i would suggest at this point to make a rating from 1 to 3 stars.
This is an awesome theme and I have some great images I'd love to share. Sucks this was only open for a day
voting closed for 10 days, Are they going to pick a winner?
