Coming to you from Kayleigh June, this great video essay discusses eight common bad habits fashion photographers fall prey to. One I think is particularly important is waiting for work to come (this is something that really applies to almost any genre). Fashion photography is a fiercely competitive genre, and it takes a willingness to continually build your portfolio and to build connections with other people working in the industry through networking and the like. One particularly important and efficient way to do this is to continuously work on personal projects, which have several benefits: they help you constantly connect with fellow creatives, they allow you to develop new technical skills and creative ideas, and they allow you to keep building your portfolio. Check out the video above for a lot of helpful advice from June.
