Coming to you from Indy Mogul, this great video sits down with Jakob Ihre, the cinematographer of HBO's "Chernobyl," to discuss the creative decisions behind the lighting and camera work. Of course, with the retelling of something like the story of Chernobyl, the basic plot structure is already in place and known by the majority of viewers, and thus, there is an extra challenge of sorts for the production team in that they have to take a story that people already know the outcome of and still make its telling engaging without relying on the element of the unknown to maintain attention. Ihre's cinematography goes a long way in accomplishing this task. Even if you have not watched the series (you totally should) or are not interested in it, the interview is well worth watching, as Ihre explains his decisions in very practical, actionable terms that are highly instructive for anyone doing video work.
Excellent show. Chilling.

Watching this makes it obvious to me how much I don't know. Had to look up anamorphic lenses for starters.
I wanna see this series now. Just been watching GOT for the 2nd time, I'm in awe of some of the lighting / production. Scenes inside the castles esp, are stunning.
The soundtrack was arresting as well.
