A Complete Guide to Lighting, Shooting, and Editing a Children's Portrait

Children's portraits are a fantastic time to embrace your creativity to make a photo that shows the happiness of childhood. This excellent video tutorial will show you how to light, shoot, and edit a children's portrait from start to finish.

Coming to you from our good friend, Pye Jirsa, with SLR Lounge, this great video tutorial will show you how to light, shoot, and edit a children's fall portrait. The video is absolutely full of great tips, but one to pay particular attention to is using a tripod. You probably do not usually shoot your portraits using a tripod, but in this case, it will make your post-processing work a lot easier. Since you will be compositing leaves into the final shot, by using a tripod and keeping the framing exactly the same each time, you can easily brush in the leaves in Photoshop without having to worry about ultra-precise masking to avoid showing a shifting background or weird perspective issues, which will save you a ton of time in the editing process and produce a better final result. It is a fun portrait to shoot that creates great results. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Jirsa.
