The Difference Between Image Quality and Quality Images

The difference between image quality and quality images is significant, and yet, they are two things that are often confused for one another. It is crucial that we maintain clarity about which is which and how to improve each individually. This excellent video essay features an experienced photographer discussing the topic and offering some insightful advice.

Coming to you from James Popsys, this fantastic video essay discusses the differences between image quality and quality images. I think Popsys makes some very interesting and insightful points here. 10-20 years ago, purchasing newer and more expensive lenses and cameras made a significant difference in image quality. Nowadays, though, even entry-level equipment can produce fantastic image quality, and as such, the real-world impact of pulling out your credit card can often be a lot less than you might hope. The important thing to remember is that the majority of the photographers we admire throughout history produced their most memorable images on equipment that was positive pedestrian compared to even the most basic modern camera. Most of the time, we are better served by practice and creative exploration than we are by spending money on more gear. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Popsys.
