Jessica Kobeissi and Kayleigh June share some quick and actionable portrait tips that don't need any special equipment — what's not to love! As a portrait photographer myself, I'm always thinking about how best to photograph a face and to bring out someone's character. The tips shared in this video are relevant to so many situations, and I know I regularly draw on several of them.
Getting on the same level as your subject works every time, especially with children, where otherwise you're shooting from above their heads! It's flattering for adults too, and really helps with developing a sense of connection between the subject and the viewer.
The tips specifically for photographing women are simple but effective; add an accessory where needed and make sure the neckline is exposed. If you struggle with achieving natural body language in portraits, the suggestions on how to manage awkward hands and lips are also valuable. I have to admit I'm not a believer in cropping afterwards, but hey, we can't agree on everything!
If you're new to portraits or fancy a bit of a creative refresh, this video is well worth a watch. Do you have any tips you can share? Put them in the comment section below.
