How Grids Can Make Your Photos With Gels Much Better

Gels are one of the cheapest and most versatile ways to quickly add a splash of creativity and visual interest to an image. That being said, it is important to use them carefully to avoid the issues that can arise with them. This is where grids can become highly useful, and this great video will show you how you can use them in combination with gels for better images.

Coming to you from Lindsay Adler Photography, this helpful video will show you how grids can vastly improve your work with lighting gels. Gels are a popular way to experiment with more creative uses of color in a photo and to create highly stylized portraits. Nonetheless, with such intense splashes of color, you have to be careful to avoid contamination in other areas of the frame or to help maintain the type of visual contrast you are likely looking for by employing the grids in the first place. This is where a grid can become highly useful, as it affords you much greater control by restricting how far off-axis the light is emitted, allowing you to more precisely place the output. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Adler.
