The Importance of Knowing Who You Are as a Photographer

Spend enough time in photography, particularly as a professional running a business, and it's easy to find yourself far from where you started and perhaps even disillusioned by it all. This great video talks about finding your voice in photography.

Coming to you from Simon Baxter, this inspiring video follows him as he goes through his catalog of images and discusses his journey in photography, pointing to particularly memorable images that served as pivotal moments in his career. I think that particularly for professional photographers, it's easy to go a long time just doing the daily grind, without really checking in with yourself to see if you're maintaining a balance of running a business with still pursuing what you love in a way that makes you happy. Of course, this can easily put one on the road to becoming disillusioned and falling out of love with photography, which is a shame when it's something that brought you joy in the past. Regularly taking the time to assess where you are, how far you've come relative to where you started, and to make note of important turning points in your work can do a lot to help you appreciate the journey and ensure that you're still traveling in the right direction. Check out the video above for Baxter's full thoughts on the matter.

Beautiful work and the reasons for it and the women is spectacular.

Boy did he hit the nail on the head concerning capturing ones mood in scene.

Simon Baxter is a great photographer, a wizard of the woodlands. Sadly he doesn't post a lot of content, but his videos are great.

Very nice video, thanks for the incite into your photography. Beautiful images, especially the river & mountain image.
