Important Advice for Professional Photographers

Being a professional photographer is quite a challenge, as you need to wear many hats and wear them all well. Of course, you need strong technical skills behind the camera and at your computer, but those are not enough. In fact, creativity is arguably more important. This excellent video features an experienced professional discussing why skills in lighting, composition, and creativity should be a top priority for professionals.

Coming to you from Scott Choucino of Tin House Studio, this interesting video discusses why it is important to prioritize creativity as a professional over perfect technique. No doubt, this is not to say that you can get by without a solid foundation of good technical skills. Rather, it is to point out that it is possible to become overly caught up in perfecting technique at the expense of creativity. There are a lot of great technicians out there, but in order to distinguish yourself in a crowded marketplace, it takes a certain amount of unique creative vision. A highly creative photographer with good technique is almost always going to win out over a technically perfect but less inspired photographer. So, be sure you are giving attention to developing both sides of your work as you continue to grow and progress. Check out the video above for Choucino's full thoughts.
