Beauty photography is a fun genre that takes both creative vision and technical skill and precision to achieve successful results. This excellent video will teach you how to shoot a classic beauty image from lighting to post-processing and more.
Coming to you from Lindsey Adler Photography, this great video goes behind the scenes to show you how she shot this classic beauty image with a reflection. In it, she uses a Canon 5D Mark IV with an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens along with two Profoto D1 strobes with a gridded beauty dish as the key light. Adding the grid to the beauty dish helps to shape the light more precisely by restricting the angle at which it exits the modifier, thereby narrowing the beam and reducing spillage. For the reflection, Adler uses a piece of Plexiglass. As she notes in the video, the raw file leaves you a lot of flexibility, and you can take the color toning in many different directions; you don't necessarily have to mimic the style she decided to follow. It's a very classic image that's a fun challenge for any studio photographer to recreate. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
