Large format photography is something entirely different from 35mm digital, medium format, and even other film photography. This fantastic video features a large format photographer discussing his story and some of the process behind making his images, and his lessons are readily applicable to any other type of photography.
Coming to you from Simon Baxter and featuring Ben Horne, this excellent video features Horne discussing large format photography and the process behind some of his images. Horne is one of my favorite photographers. He has a great way of approaching images in a purposeful way and places a strong emphasis on storytelling and really connecting with the locations in which he shoots. It is a slower way of shooting that fits perfectly with shooting large format film, but its lessons are worth applying no matter what format you shoot. If you have never shot large format film before, I highly recommend trying it. You can get a 4x5 camera and lens relatively cheaply on eBay or other used outlets. The entire process is very different compared to 35mm or even medium format work, and it can be a very meditative and relaxing experience. Check out the video above to hear Horne's story.
