Photography Education Site Creatr Looks to Add Something New To The Mix

Recently the group behind Papercut Magazine announced that their photo critique website Reveu.me has been transformed and re-launched as a subscription based photography education platform. Backed by a host of highly respected educators Creatr promises to add new voice to an already tightly packed space. On the surface Creatr looks quite promising but the big question will be if the quality of their content is worth considering over the other subscription education services on the internet.

A Digital Classroom

More than the other major photo education services on the web, Creatr looks to be a digital classroom where students watch live classes and enjoy direct interaction with the teachers. Creatr aims to develop a more personal engagement between students and teachers allowing them to actively engage during the class as well as opening up the opportunity to communicate with those teachers on a one on one basis outside of the public live streaming. In order to facilitate this, Creatr has opted to develop its own streaming system rather than using existing live stream platforms such as Google Hangouts or YouTube.

The Business Of Photography

Most online photography resources focus on the mechanics of the craft with the odd sprinkling of business theory. Creatr looks to shift this paradigm by fundamentally focusing on photography as a business. Creatr looks to teach students how to create marketable images that have business value. While craft is a big part of that students also are engaged to learn about shooting photos that will sell. In order to accomplish this Creatr has collected a wide range of teachers ranging from well known photographers, to photo editors and agents. Each teacher is contracted because they are successful in the business of photography.

Value

Creatr has hit the ground running with a competitive subscription price at $15.00 per month, which does place it visibly lower in cost than its rivals. Creatr also introduces the concept of a lifetime membership for $250.00 that provides the student with unlimited access to the Creatr platform indefinitely. Assuming that Creatr's content is able to live up to the promises it makes the value it offers relative to the price seems quite impressive.

Conclusion

As with any education platform the quality of education trumps everything else. Creatr is the new kid on the block with some great new ideas, but they still have to prove whether their platform can match the quality of many of the other heavy hitters in the photography education space. As Creatr goes through beta and fully live it will be forced to prove itself or it will quickly fall into obscurity.
