Along with aperture and ISO, shutter speed is one of the fundamental parameters that allow you to create balanced exposures and take creative control over your photos. If you are new to photography and interested in learning about how to use shutter speed more effectively, check out this fantastic video tutorial that will show you what you need to know.
Coming to you from Park Cameras, this excellent video tutorial will show you everything you need to know about using shutter speed to take great technical and creative control of your photos. If I had to give a new photographer one piece of advice about shutter speed, it would simply be to give your shutter speed priority over ISO; in other words, do not be afraid to crank up your ISO to maintain a fast enough shutter speed. A lot of photographers often use slower shutter speeds in an attempt to keep the ISO lower for better image quality. However, while you can always work on noise in post, there is not much that can be done to save a photo that is blurry due to camera shake or subject motion from too slow a shutter speed. Sharp and noisy is always better than blurry and clean. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
