We're used to learning how to create effects in post using apps like Photoshop and Premiere Pro, but there's also a world of unique things you can do in camera. This great video will show you seven cheap and easy lens effects you can create yourself.
Coming to you from Aputure, this helpful video discusses seven in-camera lens effects you can create using things like chandelier beads or melted Plexiglass. For the Plexiglass, remember that you don't need very thick sheets (that would make them less malleable and likely cause some transmission issues anyway), and you can experiment with the different shapes you mold them into. Personally, I bought one of those glass prisms that science teachers use to teach kids about the spectrum of visible light; they're longer, which makes them easier to hold and maneuver, and they can produce some fun effects rather easily. Also, when you're playing with any of these effects, be careful when you're working with wider focal lengths. It's easy to bump the glass on the lens, both because these lenses often have a convex front element and because your sense of depth is different when looking through them. Don't scratch the glass!
