Data was captured over 3 weeks in late April / early March and this astro-photo was selected for the AAPOD on March 24th 2018 (Amateur Astronomy Picture of the Day). The resolution at 1 arc second per pixel is equivalent to ~ 1200mm with my 6D.
Thor's Helmet (NGC2359) is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. The nebula is approximately 12,000 thousand light years away and approx 30 light-years in size. The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star WR7, an extremely hot star thought to be in a brief pre-supernova stage of evolution. WR7’s interactions with a nearby large molecular cloud are thought to have contributed to the complex shape and curved bow-shock structure of Thor's Helmet.
The Veil complex image I had posted before was only 1/4 complete (its a mosaic) so I replaced it with a completed image.
To boldly go where no one has gone before, 5 stars.
Thanks Cliff!
