Andiiperlae Willinkii, the only species that lives its whole life-cycle on the ice in the glaciers of Patagonia. The guys synthesize a form of glycerol in which they base their body fluids (as we use water) in order not to freeze, and feed on the decomposition of certain organic material that is blown with the winds. Despite this, i´ve found some specimen eating a dead body of the same species, and another eating a larvae of something else. I guess with the low availability of food it can´t just order pizza!
The image was shot with my mobile, as i couldn´t and wouldn´t take the dude home, nor to a studio, as it would have killed it. Background is actual glacier ice, as it was taken on the Perito Moreno Glacier.
