Hiking the Hooker Valley track in the south island of New Zealand. We were looking for some unique compositions of a somewhat familiar location for many people. We were in awe of the power and sound of the falling avalanches.
Pretty much as soon as we started our hike we heard rumbles. At first, I thought a jumbo jet was flying over. A split second later I remembered where I was! I reminded myself, no planes here mate.. that is an avalanche.
The sheer power of those things echoing down the valley is awesome. We stopped here along the track and watched ice fall from this ice shelf for ages.
