Excellent photo, however I think the theme of the competition is romantic love for Valentine’s Day. Might want to hold onto this around Mother’s Day though. 😉

Yeah, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the theme. Great shot, this is a five for me.
I think we're pushing it to say that the mother's sacrifice somehow can be twisted to fit the "Valentine's" theme. I mean Valentine's exact definition is "To show or celebrate romantic love or attraction to one another", so unless this mother is attracted to the young colt, I'd say this does not fit Valentine's at all.
