Nice diagonal, focus and exposure. I would have liked a slightly wider depth of field. Just personal preference. Or, I would have started this tight depth of field on the first whole square not the second.
I've tried this shot with wider DoF and it was quite dull. But I guess your second tip is really good and it might look better. I wanted to empahize the cutting edge and it was not possible on the first one and as you can see on the second too, but it's visible on the third knife.
