Decided to bite the bullet and build my own studio in my garage. This is the result of the first time I've ever actually tried to use flash creatively. Just a 36" softbox with an sb-700 in it behind and to the right of the subject, plus a very patient and brave model and some food-dyed corn syrup.

I like the white specular highlights that give some pop to the blue. If you have another flash you could put it behind and to the left of the subject to get some rim light and define the edges against the backdrop.
There is some banding and noise in the large shadow area, you don't need detail there so let it go really dark or apply some gentle noise reduction.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback! I do have a second flash but it's reeeeally been acting up lately and I'm waiting to get some actual strobes...
Consider a Godox AD200. I have a few of them and love them. Radio controlled with battery, clamps into a bowens adapter, and the head can change out from fresnel to bare bulb.
