Maybe you could tighten the crop a bit. I would frame it a bit differen.
From the left I would cut until I reach the tree-trunk. To cut off the excess clutter on the left. Same on the right. Cut out the right "dead tree" until you hit the trunk of the tree in the background.
This could get you a square-crop.
Is this a B&W conversion or does it have color? There are different shades of blue / brown in there. Maybe unify them together as one color-tint. With this you can drastically change the mood of the picture and pull out the dark shades.
This is how I actually shot it...kinda eerie...I will give it a try on the cropping
