I keep hearing stories of photographers who set off in bad weather and when they arrive at the location, the clouds suddenly part for some dramatic light. During this trip to Slovenia, the weather did not cooperate - with just constant rain and heavy cloud. It was my final day at Lake Bled, so at around sunset time, I took a drive to the castle hoping that the weather would suddenly break. When I got there, I couldn't even see the island on the lake, so I worked on architectural details of the castle, constantly keeping an eye on the scene below. After a couple of hours, I noticed it getting a bit brighter, so I thought I would try a moody long exposure with the low cloud. As I set up the ND filter, the sun broke through. I had time to take three images before it disappeared. After many unsuccessful trips during bad weather, it felt so good to have one go my way.

Awesome picture of this often seen location. I totally agree that it can be very rewarding to head out in bad weather for a chance of clearing up. So better have a low chance of an outstanding picture than a high chance of a mediocre one. One of the pictures I've added to this contest had the same conditions and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for the feedback and thoughts.
