2.55 - "Solid"

'Entity' - The water drop to me resembles an otherworldly being, the random nature of water is truly astounding in the different structures that are formed even when the same settings are used for consecutive shots. I have been experimenting with ultraviolet light sources and modified two of my off-camera flashes, the liquid that is dropped is ordinary tonic water which due to the quinine in it, fluoresces brilliantly under UV. The base container is tap water and some pink fluorescent ink residue that didn't clean off from a series of images taken just before this one. The bokeh in the background is produced by scrunching up tin foil and lighting it with a gelled standard off camera flash, care had to be taken though so that it did not interfere with the UV ones. Typically a smaller aperture would be used for greater depth of field, however I wanted to keep the bokeh fairly large. f/10, 1/200s, ISO 500, flash at 1/32 power to 'freeze' the liquid. Colours have been tweaked and stray drops of liquid removed.
